    lunch explanation

To address the comments - no, I do not choose to send lunch in with Kate. No, I pay out the a** to send Kate to a school that doesn't provide lunch. Isn't life grand? It's a huge pain in the behind, although I suppose I shouldn't complain about having to feed my own child. Wink It really is only a pain because Kate's eating is so bizarre. The kid eats chili almost everyday for lunch because she is so goofy. Her lunch diet is mostly chili: I make it every couple of weeks and freeze it down (Tracey, I did it again! it's been 2 years since I was in a lab!). It's heavy on the beans, and I'm adding more and more veggies these days. She does love it, although it's ridiculous to each chili 4 out of 7 days, so I keep making it. I rotate in grilled chicken once a week or so, but that's just about the only other thing I can count on her to eat (although I was reminded the other day that she loves taco meat), and since there's no food at school I need to make sure that I provide food that she'll eat. I can't wait for the day she eats a pb&j sandwich like a normal kid! HEAVEN! At least chili is healthy. Oh, and I almost forgot - she didn't eat the pizza on Friday!!!!

So that's the lunch situation. It is a seriously large pain.

Jess, Kate is in Rockville for many reasons - I've discussed it before so I'm not going to re-type it all. It was definitely the right decision, particularly given how bad traffic has been recently (although not tonight - woo hoo!) and how long Jay's hours have been. It's far easier to pick her up and endure the traffic with her than it is to have to stress over getting to her in time. I still want to get a DVD system...

I was surprised when I found several centers that did not provide lunch.  Seriously, it would be such a pain to prepare the kids' lunches too.  The one reason that I like that they provide it is that I am positive my kids eat other things that I don't normally serve (and in good way - cream of mushroom soup, hawaiian meatballs, etc.)  That said, I'm sure the positives were significant for you to choose this center even if the lunch thing is inconvenient.  It is so funny that Kate loves chili so much - and doesn't like pizza.  I'm sure that will change soon enough.

I like Becky's idea about using the iPhone (or an iPod).  Keller was just a little over 2 when we first used it on our trip to Florida.  She might really enjoy it.

When you're at Kate's wedding one day you can laugh that as a toddler she ate chili four days a week.  :)  I know it seems like such a pain now, but think about how funny it will be later.  I say this as a mom who's kid drew all over her face yesterday with one of my favorite lipsticks (which is ruined).  All I could do is laugh.  If I don't, I'll cry and I've been doing enough of that lately!!!

Now, I want that chili recipe!  A kid knows a good thing when they eat it!  :)

I meant to ask, do you have an iPhone?  Cause when Maddy and I went to WI I downloaded a ton of videos to it for Maddy for the plane ride and car rides and it worked out nice.  Do you think Kate can handle holding one to watch it?  Just something to tide you over until you find the DVD player you want (plus you can download videos from anywhere--it doesn't have to be a DVD).

Sorry I missed that post and thanks for taking the time to point me in that direction.  I assumed Jay would be working from home and that if Kate got sick and the daycare wanted her picked up, being closer to home would be better than you taking her home from Rockville.  That's all cleared up!  I don't blame you for not going with an in home daycare.  I'd be too worried.  Sucks, though, that you have to send her with lunch and snacks.  But if the quality of care is better, you don't pick a facility based on who feeds and who doesn't.
